SJS in the News

We have a lot to talk about, so be sure to check our News page often. Here we will share details about upcoming events, provide important reminders, and tell you all about the things and people that make us great.

Stations Of The Cross

Students will be participating in the Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 1:00 p.m. We do not require mass attire at this time.

ACRE Diocesan Religion Test

On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, students in grades 5 and 8 will be taking the ACRE Diocesan Religion Test. We give this test to assess the students’ cumulative knowledge in the following six domains: knowledge of faith, liturgical life, moral formation, prayer, communal life, and missionary spirit. This is a timed standard assessment test. We will receive the results before the end of the school year and will place a copy of the results into your child’s cumulative folder in the main office.

Report Cards

The end of the second trimester is on Friday, March 9. Grades will close on Tuesday, March 13, and we will send home report cards on Friday, March 16. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.

Talent Show Success

Our talent show was a great success! We genuinely enjoyed our faculty and student presentations. It was wonderful to see families, siblings, and grandparents attending to support those performing. We would also like to thank Mr. Dillon for his terrific job of being the master of ceremonies at our talent show!

Reminder

We want to remind our families that we post our newsletter on our site every week. If you feel like you are missing bits of information, please make sure to read our newsletter in full. You can find each week posted on the left side of our News page. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Penny War Winners

The first grade students won the student council penny war with a total of $93.78! They will be receiving a cupcake party. Our school total was $246.14, and we will be donating every penny to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Thank you to all of you who participated!

Peer Reading Rocks!

Students were involved with Peer Reading Buddies on Thursday, February 1, 2018. We paired students with different classes. For example, grade 8 students read to the Pre-K students. Grade 7 students read to the Kindergarten class. Grade 6 students read to grade 1 students. Grade 5 students read with grade 2 students and grades 3 and 4 paired together. Students enjoyed the reading activity.

Killingly Festival

We are participating in the Killingly Festival on Saturday, May 19. We are looking for a tent and a table in order to have a booth in Davis Park. If you can help, please contact the main office. We are also looking for a flatbed truck so we can decorate. We have a school banner. We would like to get a representation of students, parents, faculty, and staff to parade down Main Street including athletes, student council, National Honor Society, and class officers.

Recess Time For Middle School Students

Students will go outside for recess just as long it’s not below a certain temperature, sleeting, raining and snowing. Many of our middle school children choose not to go out for recess so they can work on assignments and make up work or even receive extra help in a particular area. If students are not receiving help or working on assignments, they will go out for recess.

Tuition Assistance

Please note that if you have an interest in applying for tuition assistance through the Catholic Foundation for 2018, you must apply through FACTS between January 1 and March 1. We will not accept applications after March 1.
