St. James Raffle Program

Please take a moment to read Principal Joyal’s February 24 letter. In this letter, she shares information about the establishing of the St. James Raffle Program. We want to give thanks in advance for support of the raffle program!


Upcoming Parent Meeting

Please join us for a parent meeting on March 9, where we will review the increase in St. James tuition. The meeting is in our gym and begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!


Winter Dress

Please provide your children with extra socks and mittens for the winter. We have a number of students coming to school without hats, gloves, and boots. Sometimes they get wet, and we do not have extra clothing for them. Thank you.


Donnelly's Uniform Company Visit

Donnelly's Uniform Company will be at St. James School on Tuesday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will be sending flyers home soon. Delivery of purchases will take place on Wednesday, July 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


Holiday Cash Calendar Raffle

Mrs. Knight will be running the holiday cash calendar raffle fundraiser beginning on Sunday, February 12. We will be sending a cover letter home with the children soon. Please contact Mrs. Knight for additional information.


Tuition Assistance Grants

The Catholic Foundation makes tuition assistance grants to elementary schools each year at the annual awards dinner on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Holiday Inn in Norwich. The foundation determines each applicant’s need based on the FACTS application and the supporting documents that you file online. Last year, the foundation awarded 193 students a total of $99,750.00. This year, they will be accepting online applications beginning on January 1, 2017, through March 6, 2017. Please submit all the information required from FACTS because if the applications are not fully complete, FACTS cannot verify the information. Mary Ellen Mahoney, from the Norwich development office, has provided this information.


Dismissal Procedures Are Changing

We want to inform you that dismissal procedures will be changing at the end of the school day. The dismissal procedures will be effective on Tuesday, September 5, 2016. The following information will eliminate the car line as it stands currently:

  • We will dismiss Pre-K/K will as normal through the rear of the school building.
  • In an orderly fashion, we will dismiss all classes from their classroom and exit through the ramp door. Faculty and staff will escort students outside their classroom and will supervise them until all students are in the appropriate vehicles.
  • Dismissal should proceed quickly so please be on time for pick-up at 2:40 p.m.
  • It is imperative that vehicles do not idol in the school parking lot. This is a state law.
  • For safety reasons, vehicles are not to leave the school parking lot without a signal from a faculty or staff member in order to make sure that all students are in the appropriate vehicle. A faculty or staff member will be at the beginning of the parking lot near the gate. Please watch for a signal from a faculty member. After the signal is given, you may leave the parking lot by going left or right of the lot to expedite the process.  

Therefore, after observing the dismissal procedures on August 31, our principal made an executive decision to eradicate the car line. We hope that this will alleviate any issues concerning the dismissal of students at the end of the school day.

Altar Servers Class

Our altar servers class meets on the fourth Saturday of every month at 3:30 p.m. Please call ahead to schedule. We will train you, and you will serve your first mass at 4:00 p.m. with Mr. Stepalavich. For information, or to sign up, please call Mrs. Stepalavich at (860) 630-0680.
