SJS in the News

Earth Day Project

As part of Earth Day, Stephanie Arsenault, Julie Fauxbel, and grades 2 and 3 will spruce the grounds at St. James. They plan to tackle the garden by the back door. Students will be weeding and getting the soil ready for the spring planting. We are in need of donations for garden soil to spruce things up a bit.


2017-2018 School Year

If you are planning to send your children to St. James next year, please complete the necessary forms. We need to make decisions concerning the number of students per class, textbook ordering, classroom materials, and staff we will need for the 2017-2018 school year. If you have made a decision and you are not returning, please contact the main office so we can send students records to their future school. Thank you.


Safety Meeting

Our final safety meeting of the year is on Friday, May 5 in the teacher's lounge. We hope to see you there!


Spring Concert

We are having a combined spring concert on Thursday, May 18 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph School in North Grosvenordale. Please join us!

Spring Testing

The Diocese of Norwich will use the Iowa Assessments and the Cognitive Abilities Test for spring 2017 during the weeks of April 24-May 12. We will test our students during those weeks. We will give practice tests to our students prior to the actual testing time.


Shorts Weather

Students have the opportunity to begin wearing shorts on April 3 to June (end of school). Grades 1-7 are required to wear navy blue shorts and grade 8 tan walking shorts. Belts are required. You may wear sneakers with walking shorts, but we consider boots outerwear. We do not permit boots, clogs, high-tops, flip-flops, or open-back shoes. On Mass days, you are still required to wear your Mass attire. No shorts!


Enrollment Management Marketing Tool

Please complete the parent survey that we sent home with your child on March 28. A successful marketing plan depends on a complete understanding of the "product/school" being promoted, so it is imperative to begin marketing after we gather data. We need to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the school. The parent survey will complement the analysis we need to further refine our school's values. The current parents' assessment of the school should reflect our mission statement. Our school's mission statement reflects the current reality of our school and the essence of why the school exists. So, please take a few minutes and complete the parent survey. Thank you.


Golf Tournament

The St. James School memorial golf tournament is on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Please see Jay Long and Joe Beaudreault for more information.


Summer Camp Update

We will be hosting summer camp again this year. The program will run from June 19-July 28. Over the last three years of collected data, we lost $11,957.32 in the program. We have made the school advisory board aware of the situation but would like to continue the program by increasing our fees and limiting the field trips to one per week. Please review our informational camp letter for more details. 


Donnelly's Uniform Company Visit

Donnelly's Uniform Company will be at St. James School on Tuesday, May 9 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. We will be sending flyers home soon. Delivery of purchases will take place on Wednesday, July 26 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.


Dismissal Procedures Are Changing

We want to inform you that dismissal procedures will be changing at the end of the school day. The dismissal procedures will be effective on Tuesday, September 5, 2016. The following information will eliminate the car line as it stands currently:

  • We will dismiss Pre-K/K will as normal through the rear of the school building.
  • In an orderly fashion, we will dismiss all classes from their classroom and exit through the ramp door. Faculty and staff will escort students outside their classroom and will supervise them until all students are in the appropriate vehicles.
  • Dismissal should proceed quickly so please be on time for pick-up at 2:40 p.m.
  • It is imperative that vehicles do not idol in the school parking lot. This is a state law.
  • For safety reasons, vehicles are not to leave the school parking lot without a signal from a faculty or staff member in order to make sure that all students are in the appropriate vehicle. A faculty or staff member will be at the beginning of the parking lot near the gate. Please watch for a signal from a faculty member. After the signal is given, you may leave the parking lot by going left or right of the lot to expedite the process.  

Therefore, after observing the dismissal procedures on August 31, our principal made an executive decision to eradicate the car line. We hope that this will alleviate any issues concerning the dismissal of students at the end of the school day.

Altar Servers Class

Our altar servers class meets on the fourth Saturday of every month at 3:30 p.m. Please call ahead to schedule. We will train you, and you will serve your first mass at 4:00 p.m. with Mr. Stepalavich. For information, or to sign up, please call Mrs. Stepalavich at (860) 630-0680.
